Deployment Timeline

SecureW2 was contacted by the customer at the end of September in 2021. The customer had already done a lot of thinking about what they required for their network security, so implementation was fast.

After just a couple calls and a demo, the customer was set up with their Cloud RADIUS and managed PKI within two weeks. At this point in time, the company is considering adding additional features to their package for guest network access and BYODs.

Challenges

Healthcare providers have a lot on their plates. With taking care of clients in the midst of a novel pandemic, keeping their own staff healthy, and protecting sensitive medical records, network security is often understandably not high on their list of concerns. Don, the company’s IT Manager, knew the company couldn’t drop the ball here, though, and began searching for a solution.

We were still using PSKs for our Wi-Fi network. Having watched the news and seen all these data breaches occurring regularly, I knew we needed to move to something more secure.

Time was of the essence for the company. Their extremely rapid growth has led to a widening demand for better Wi-Fi security. More people are accessing their network, and if you’re using a pre-shared key, that just means there’s more opportunity for the password in question to be breached – whether through simple negligence or intentional malevolence.

The company realized that, to remain HIPAA-compliant and protect their clients’ data, they needed a network security solution as soon as possible. Ideally, the solution would be able to seamlessly integrate with their existing cloud-based infrastructure, including Azure and Intune. They also wanted something that didn’t depend on Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), an increasingly outdated protocol with numerous vulnerabilities.

Solution

When the client reached out to SecureW2, they were blown away by how well our solution fit into their infrastructure.

Don and his team were looking for an easy way to deploy certificates.

They utilized SecureW2’s SCEP (Simple Certificate Enrollment Protocol) to simplify the enrollment process for their end-users. The client was able to enroll certificates to all of their managed devices in the same amount of time it takes to manually configure a single device. Better yet, all of this is done with no end-user interaction.

Using SCEP made the whole process mind-bogglingly easy. It’s the best way to provision certificates.

The client also utilized SecureW2’s Dynamic Cloud RADIUS to introduce a revolutionary way to authenticate users and enforce policies to strengthen their WPA2-Enterprise network. Once configured in Azure, the RADIUS can perform enhanced certificate-based authentication, runtime-level policy enforcement, and provides security redundancies, all without any expensive on-premise server.

Don and his team are currently equipped with an impenetrable 802.1X network backed by industry-exclusive Cloud RADIUS.

Evaluating Success

After just a few short weeks of preparation, the client was fully equipped with everything they needed for a certificate-backed network.

We are continuing to work with the client to help them with a BYOD solution as well as a guest 802.1X network for visiting end users.
